The mistakes can be overcome with time and experience and the idea here is to tell about the most common mistakes which people make while using the sewing machines. To handle a best sewing machine like a pro can be easy if you have got the knowledge to get it on track.

Top 5 mistakes while using a Sewing Machine:

The beginners while using the sewing machine makes the following 5 common mistakes:

  • The unthreading needle problem while you start sewing – This issue comes when you just thread in the needle and as soon as you start the machine, the needle get unthreaded. It is simple to solve the issue. Always be sure that a few inches of the thread is available on the other side of the needle before you begin. Make sure that your needle has the highest possible position and this can be a certain checking to take up lever or the silver hook at the top of your sewing machine. Ascertaining both these points will surely solve the problem.
  • The Jiggling Fabric – If this happens then the solution is quite simple. You may have forgotten to lower the presser foot of your machine that keeps the fabric in the form and straight. Just lower the presser foot and doing so will keep the fabric material in place which will allow you to stitch neatly and not in freestyle. You will have to check this step before you start your sewing process.
  • The uneven stitching issue – The beginners have all sorts of issue initially in their simple projects even. If the stitches you make look loopy or uneven on one side and a considerably tighter on the other, then your first thought will be the improper working of the thread tension setting. You may be right in thinking this, but not always. So, if the problem is with the thread tension setting, then adjusts the dial of the tension and it is better to get the setting right on a sample fabric. Keep on practicing on a sample until you are sure about evenness in the stitches on either side. But, it might not always be the issue with thread tension setting as at times it can be the way you threaded your bobbin which may also affect the thread tension. Check your bobbin to ensure that it is inserted in the right way where normally thread has to unwind in the anticlockwise direction. The Machine’s manual must also be checked to be completely sure about this issue.
  • Tight stitching problem on the top side – This is again a common problem and it again can be due to the problem with the thread tension dial. But, before checking that, you need to be sure that the spool thread is free and not caught up on the small silver tension discs positioned at the top of your sewing machine. There might be the case where you have put the thread for the winding of your bobbin earlier, later, after threading the machine, you are required to remove it for not creating excessive tension in the spool which results in tight stitches.
  • The “Knotting up” problem with the thread – This is a common issue again where the thread knots up or at times get jammed. To ensure, this problem doesn’t arise, you are required to check whether both the bobbin and spool threads are sticking towards the back side of the machine. If not, then they get twisted and can cause a thread knot or the jamming of the machine issues.

All of these mistakes are minor, but may lead to major issues if not considered to be solved in the start. You must be aware of these little flaws to get your sewing process on the right track.
